Brudniak Recieves Best of Ausin Award from Austin Chronicle Friday, October 14, 2011 Best Sculptures From Yesterday's Future: Steve Brudniak (Critics Picks, Arts & Entertainment) "Don't call him Steampunk" is the usual caution. That's because, while Steve Brudniak's eerie objects of technology from some mad past may radiate a whiff of that largely cosplay-based genre of expression, they're more firmly based in the fine art milieu. Several of the man's obsessively crafted sculptures are also based in lucky venues around town – the East Side Show Room, the Green Muse Cafe – where their brass, glass, metal, and wood provide more dark delight and scientific mystery than a Klein bottle full of Higgs bosons. http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Awards/BestOfAustin/?Award=1244291 |

Brudniak Artist Talk And Documentary Screenings at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center Tuesday, July 20, 2010 Wednesday, July 28, 2010 6:30 pm 116 Blue Star, San Antonio, TX 78204 Austin-based artist Steve Brudniak will give an Artist Talk at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center. Steve will discuss the work in his Gallery 4 exhibition, Noumenon, and Other New Work, as well as his pieces Astogreneris Mementos, which were launched into orbit and exhibited on the International Space Station in 2008. Brudniak will also screen two short documentaries on his work, Steve Brudniak: Noumenon and Ulteriaphobia, The Art of Steve Brudniak. Steve Brudniak: Noumenon is a 20-minute documentary chronicling the making of two sculptures by the artist, Noumenon and The Vegus Leviathan. Like most of Brudniaks work, the process is often long and laborious. The pieces documented each required more than 6 months to complete, incorporating active and passive visual effect elements requiring a great deal of engineering. Brudniak explains and demonstrates some of these processes and elaborates on the conceptual meanings imbued in the art through narration of documentary footage and images compiled and edited by video artist/actor Wiley Wiggins Ulteriaphobia, The Art of Steve Brudniak was produced in the mid 90s and documents the artists work of that period. Filmmaker and projection artist Luke Savisky follows Brudniak through several weeks in the life of the artist on this short tour through galleries, art collections, a foundry, and the artists studio. |

Selections From Steve Brudniak: Noumenon, and Other New Work at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center Tuesday, July 6, 2010 116 Blue Star, San Antonio, TX 78204 OPENING RECEPTION Thursday, Jul 1, 2010 6:00 - 8:00 pm DATES Jul 1, 2010 - Jul 31, 2010 These sculptures appear to be machines or ritual objects operating in some bizarre institution but are in fact, assemblages of found objects imbued with science elements including: samples of the oldest life ever discovered, lenses which reflect 3-dimensional images, inorganic "specimens" in fluid and fiber optic projections. Most take months to finish, some as long as a year. This new body of work reflects upon the principal/condition Noumenon; the emptiness from which all things emerge. The show will also include Brudniak's, Astrogeneris Mementos which were launched into outer space and exhibited on the International Space Station for the first ever art show in outer space. |

Brudniak Assemblages Going Into Outer Space Friday, April 25, 2008 Brudniaks "Astrogeneris Mementos" will be the first assemblage sculptures to go into outerspace in the first art exhibit ever to leave the earth. These small sculptures were made specifically to be taken into outer space to the International Space Station by soon to be astronaut, Richard Garriott, the legendary on line and video game entrepreneur and explorer. Richard has been a collector of Brudniak's work for several years. The two began a collaboration that will include the first in space art exhibition with these pieces and the work of several others aboard the space station. Garriott and his father, former shuttle astronaut, Owen Garriott donated locks of their hair to be sealed in the memento chambers, roughly inspired by the memento mori lockets of the 19th century which contain the hair of loved ones who have died or gone abroad. Garriott will be flying aboard the Russian Soyuz spacecraft this fall to the International Space Station as a client of Space Adventures. Visit his webpage and blogg: richardinspace.com to follow this exciting adventure. Have a look at these little gems on the art page and see the signed photos and documentation in the traveling exhibit, "SteveBrudniak: Noumenon" which opens at the Doughtery Arts Center on May 20. Welcome to stevebrudniak.com!! Friday, June 23, 2006 stevebrudniak.com is the updated and polished version of wileywiggins.com/brudniak/. After months of scanning, photoshoping, research, writing and uploading, the site has made it to the web and your screen. Now you can see for the first time, a comprehensive index of Brudniaks assemblage work spanning back nearly a quarter century. Many of the photos have never before been published and many have been color corrected and clarified for the first time. Additionally, there are of course brand new pieces to see, photos of the artist, as well as updated and new information about each assemblage including collected artists notes for many pieces. Along with a new bio; the resume, bibliography and other print information have been redesigned and updated. Visit the Links page to connect to more news, pics, video and info about Brudniak and his work on the Internet and remember to visit this news page again periodically for updates on exhibits articles and new work. Questions, comments, price inquiries and suggestions are encouraged...thanks for having a look! Special thanks goes out to The Octopus Project Design team, Wiley Wiggins and Sun Jue Shin for making it all happen. |
